TEAM

DevCorp is built on the strength of its people. We believe there is a specialised skill and art to residential development. It is our team, our professional talents and expertise that make the DevCorp difference. As a team, we know design is critical. It’s what drives us to deliver exceptional, functional and beautiful developments we are proud to sell to our family and friends.

MURRAY THORNTON, Managing Director

A licensed builder with 25 years of development experience, Managing Director Murray Thornton leads the DevCorp team. Murray’s eye for detail and his commitment to continued excellence leaves a defining mark on each and every DevCorp development. The classically trained carpenter, with a talent and love for creativity and art of working with timber, landed his first job immediately – fitting out a hairdressing salon on Sydney’s Oxford Street. With his country work ethic and carpentry skill, the motivated self-starter soon secured work on one of the city’s most well-known development projects – the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games athletes village.

From there, Murray sought development opportunities around the suburbs of Strathfield and Concord in Sydney’s inner-west. In 2001 Murray went out on his own, creating and incorporating DevCorp. Through a ground-breaking, decade-long joint venture with Defence Housing Australia, DevCorp developed and created housing projects to meet Australia’s defence force needs.

A move to Brisbane in 2004 saw Murray undertake a Ferny Grove development in the city’s northwest for Defence Housing Australia. His drive to give even more to the community led to the creation of the Habitat Early Learning Centre, which opened in Ferny Grove in 2009. The Habitat Early Learning centre is now widely recognised as setting a new standard in quality childcare and education and has expanded to other Queensland locations.

Building on the success of Habitat, Murray followed his calling to create significant development projects and deliver a new standard for residential development for the Brisbane community.

“It’s an emotional process, creating people’s homes from nothing. We understand the gravity of what we are doing and the importance of getting it right,” Murray says.

His strong sense of design and the use of wood, borne from his skill and love of carpentry, manifests itself in enhanced liveability and in small but delightful ways within all DevCorp developments.
